Interesting fact of the day: One of our youth who just came from being "locked up" I'm not sure if that means JV or jail, but he said they only issue you women's deoderant.
So I was watching tv this morning and a commercial came on with two little kids talking (around ten years old). This is the basic breakdown of the commercial... Kid #1: You mean your family doesn't have a plan? Kid #2: Nope Kid #1: What happens if there is a terrist attack? My family has decided where we will all meet in case we are unable to communicate with eachother. Voiceover-be prepared for an attack-decide ahead of time where to meet. (brought to you by homeland security)
This commercial totally seems like it was taken out of 1950s cold-war times-like we should all plan to meet in a bomb shelter or something. My plan is to get myself to Kansas-I figure I'd be safe right in the middle of nowhere.
I would never consider myself a chocolate lover, I never even thought i liked it that much, but I'm really missing it. I guess i didn't even realize all the things I consume that have chocolate and how much I would be cutting out. The biggest challenge was the two visits over the weekend to Friendly's (it's like I'm in hs again), it's crazy how almost every topping has chocolate involved and almost every flavor. I use to think that Friendly's had a good variety of ice cream, but they really only have 12 flavors. However, not eating chocolate has made me discover two new delicious things. The first is the "strawberry-banana friend-z" at Friendly's which is a treat of vanilla ice cream with bananas and strawberry topping all mixed together. My second disovery was in the Oakland diner where I couldn't drink chocolate milk-my usual drink of choice at diners-so I got pink lemonade, which was delightful. I'm already thinking what will be my first chocolate thing once Lent is over. I think we have to break traditions this year and stop off at TGIF so I can get oreo madness. However, oreo madness is so good normally I can't imagine after a chocolate fast, I think my heart might explode.
Day 2 of training at work, which apparently has been extended to 6 months! Here are some highlights: *the director using the phrase "getting jiggy with it" in an attempt to sound 'street'-he gives a bad name to white people everywhere *Finding out that one of my co-workers has a daughter who is a midget (his words) who is dating a 7 foot tall man AND he describes his daughter as looking like E.T. Saddly there was no candy this time, but that's okay I was full from mychocolate shake a laMcDonald's. I have decided that I'm giving up allchocolatefor Lent-it mets my requirement oflenten things I give up by being the food I have become obsessed with. Past recepicants have been: 2004:doughnuts 2003: all kinds of chips 2002: mozarella sticks 2001: choco tacos etc. Usually I just replace my current food obsession with a new one, but I still suffer that lost. And as usual I try to do something positive during Lent. After contemplation I think it's just going to be a general working on my relationship with God and trying to get to church. So hopefully this Lent I will grow in my relationship with God and have a lot less pimples.
Let's hear it for nothing to do on Sunday mornings at work
REMEMBER YOUR SENIOR YEAR OF HIGH SCHOOL! What year was it? 1998-99 What were your three favorite bands? Nsync, Aerosmith and Bon Jovi What was your favorite outfit? Well I had no choice in my pink blouse/pink plaid skirt and cranberry cardigan for AHA with of course the cranberry knee socks. I can't really remember any shirts I wore then but I loved my overalls and this pair of LEI jeans I had that was so worn in it was like I was wearing sweatpants made of the wings of angels. I can still remember the moment freshman year when I ripped them and I realized I had to get rid of them. I heart those pants. What was up with your hair? exactly the same. Who were your best friends? All the people I'm friends with today give or take some (ie Laura-gone, Katie-added) What did you do after school? Working at the afterschool program with Tara good times, good times. Folkgroup(even if there wasn't any just hanging out in Bryan School Park), (renagade) youthgroup, Search meetings and volleyball??? Did you take the bus? I was cool and had my license, but I was stuck driving my mom's stupid stationwagon Who did you have a crush on? Brian, Brian McGowen, Brian, Evan, Brian, Did you fight with your parents? totally, the only one I can specifically remember was the fight with my mom about me wearing make-up to prom-I got my way and didn't wear any. Who did you have a CELEBRITY crush on? Jenson Ackles on Days!, Pacey from DC, Scott Wolf and JC. Did you smoke cigarettes? nope Did you lug all of your books around in your backpack all day because you were too nervous to find your locker? No, but I did carry my books in my purple LL Bean bookbag because that's what you did since there wasn't enough time to go back and forth between classes. Did you have a 'clique'? If by clique you mean me and KB then yes, yes I did Did you have "The Max" like Zach Kelly and Slater? My hangouts senior year was Vinny's basement/room, Kb's newly converted garage to living room and just driving around in my car(which was brand new then!) and usually ending up at 7/11 Admit it, were you popular? Def. not, but being popular meant getting scammified and I wasn't into that anyway Who did you want to be just like? Not sure, maybe Joey from DC, my life already parrallelled that show. What did you want to be when you grew up? Campus Minister/Youth Minister(see Brian for once you copied me!)/teacher perhaps/one time dancer on Broadway. I was adament that I would not go to graduate school and probably just be a stay at home mom. What did you think you'd be at the age you are now? At 18, 23 is so old! At 23, 23 is so old! I can't say I remember specifically, but I probably assumed I would be a youth minister, and I hoped I would be in a serious relationship. I just got it mixed up a little cause I'm in a serious relationship with a youth minister :)
Yesterday was the start of our once a week training for 5 months! at CH. I felt so grown up, I mean we had training things at Loaves and Fishes but L+F was so laid back so it was different. This involved slides and questions for discussions. Unlike L+F there was no happy hour but there was candy and I ate approx. 56 billion mini snickers, twix and milky way-I've never really had a milky way cause of the whole nougat thing but I highly enjoyed it. And I totally got a case of the giggles when the director was talking about skills, all I could think about was numchuck skills and BOW STAFF skills. Gosh!
